A local institution since 1885
St. George’s Tennis Club
St. George’s Tennis Club is a volunteer-run, community-driven club in a Dartmouth residential neighbourhood. Although it’s second home, the club has been on St. George’s Lane for well over a century. A local institution since 1885, the club once featured grass courts, clay courts, and hard courts. Today, the club is known for its exceptional HarTru courts—a green clay surface made from billion-year-old pre-Cambrian metabasalt.
Pre-pandemic, the club underwent a significant website rebuild by members John deWolf and Steve Marquis. Updating the club’s visual identity was part of the revamp. The logo is now more modern and easier to use while preserving fundamental elements of the club’s last logotype. Furthermore, it was much easier to reproduce, which necessary for the merchandise the club started selling.
John deWolf sat on the Board from 2018–19 and was president from 2020–22.
